Updating a village's brand identity and guidance system is like designing a new way of opening it. Located in the north-western suburbs of Hangzhou, Qingshan Village is surrounded on three sides by hills, with several reservoirs within the village and an excellent environment of green hills and water.

The real connection between people is what we experienced when we worked closely on this project and what we wanted to convey through our design. The linguistic form of the logo, which goes beyond the official administrative village name, emerged naturally from this process - play it over in your head and a bright "stereo surround sound" emerges. The logo is a 'word scene', with lush green hills, raindrops falling rapidly and bamboo leaves blowing in the mountain breeze forming the elements of the graphic, echoing the geography of the village. The guide signs linking the various nodes of the village are a series of stacked signs that are simple and friendly.

The new image of Qingshan Village will be officially opened in 2022, and the signage is in the process of being produced and installed, so the design work has come to an end for now. But what we as outsiders are more curious about is how this will actually interact with the villagers living here. What kind of difference will it make to the village? It will take us a little longer to see and answer this question.
